Why Palm Sunday is on March 21 in 2027
Palm Sunday is a movable feast, so its date changes every year. It is set by counting back one week from Easter.
Western churches calculate Easter as the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21. In 2027, that full moon falls on Monday, March 22, which makes Easter Sunday March 28. Palm Sunday lands exactly seven days earlier.
This method traces back to the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. Encyclopaedia Britannica explains how Easter is calculated in more detail.
